This map presents environmental technology companies, knowledge centres and installations. On the right side of the map, you'll find buttons for Zoom in (selected by default), Zoom out, Zoom all (shows the entire map), Pan (allows to shift the visible area to the N, E, V or S) and Identify. By selecting one of these buttons, the corresponding function will be activated. After selecting "zoom in" or "zoom out", you can either click a point of the map or draw a rectangle with the mouse to indicate how much you want to zoom. When selecting "zoom all", this operation is done immediately, without the need of another interaction.
In order to view data about a certain location, zoom in, select the identify button and then click as close to the location icon as possible. A small box will show brief information and also offer the More details link to consult the full data available for that location. Sometimes more locations are situated in the same area, or even at the same address. In this case, the identify function will list the names of the available locations in the left side of the map and let you choose one of them at a time by clicking on the corresponding button. Clear selection will make the listing on top of the map go away.
By default the map is slightly zoomed to the centre of Europe and no filter is applied upon the locations. When clicking on the map, it will zoom with the selected point in the middle. As you go deeper into the map, the background contains more information, such as roads, rivers, lakes. This info is more detailed for some countries and less detailed for others. In case the details are not enough to locate the surroundings of a point, you can also choose to see a limited number of locations (less than 200) in Google Earth. For that you need Google Earth version 4.0 or higher installed on your computer.
Panning to S, SE, E, NE, N, NV, V or SV can also be done when any of the right-side buttons is selected by clicking on the corresponding arrows from around the map.
It is possible to filter the locations displayed on the map by one or more categories of environmental technologies, one or more countries and, on top of that, it's possible to further narrow down the number of locations by typing in keywords that would be found in their descriptions. Each time you choose another category or country, the map will reload. After typing keywords, you need to press the Search button for the filter to be applied.
If you need to see, filter sort the locations by different criteria, click on the List selected locations upper button. Instead on showing the locations on the map, this page will display them in tabular format. The same search filters and the export in Google Earth facility are also available here. From the listing page you can return to the map with the selected locations by choosing the View on map button.
Initially, the icons displayed on the map for the locations will show their type: Company, Knowledge centre or Technology installation. Alternatively, it's possible to see the locations filtered on the map using the icons corresponding to the categories of environmental technologies they represent. For that press the Display locations by category button on the top of the page. As you can see on the right side filtering menu, not all categories have an icon assigned to them, so a generic icon will appear for the locations corresponding to other categories. To switch back, press the same button which is now called Display locations by type.
